“We are living in the 21st century today but horrible things are happening around us and the least, we don’t want to hear is a war! And, to live in the country where this is happening as a student is quite devastating.
My name is Sreeja and I am studying at Kharkiv National Medical University- 1st Course in Ukraine, Oleskiviska and it’s been two and a half months since I joined in. Because of the recent Russia – Ukraine Crisis, there were so many things happening around us. Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said 137 people, including 10 military officers, have been killed and 316 people injured so far.
The actual bombs, missiles and violent attack started on Thursday, i.e February 24th. I stay in a hostel provided by the college and the head officials evacuated us in the bunkers over here. We spent our night in our hostel mess to be safe as curfew was announced and the Ukraine government is helping the students as much as possible with the flights. Even the Government of India is trying their best to reach out to us as they would be transferring us to Hungary first and then to India.
My family members from India are trying their best to provide support through media, collectors, etc. As of now, we have been provided with all the basic needs and we really can’t say what happens in the upcoming days.
I had never expected such a crisis would occur in life where I could witness real bomb attacks and everyone here are in a hurry to reach their country and be safe. With all your wishes and prayers, we just hope that we reach home safe and things settles down soon between the two countries.”
