“I’m Ameya Kanukuntla, a cricketer from Hyderabad, and I currently represent the Germany Women’s National Cricket Team as a bowling all-rounder.
I was born in Hyderabad and lived there for 14 years. My earliest memories of cricket are of playing with my dad and friends in the neighbourhood. I was six when I first held a cricket bat. Over time, it became more than just a hobby—it became part of my routine, something I looked forward to every day.

Even during the pandemic, I joined a cricket academy and trained whenever I could. I didn’t imagine then that I’d play for a national team. But when we moved to Germany for my dad’s job, things took a turn I hadn’t expected.

I joined a local sports club and came across open trials for Germany’s U15 team. I gave it a try and got selected. That moment changed everything. From there, I kept training, stayed consistent, and eventually made it to the senior national team. I’m proud to represent a country that’s still building its cricket culture. We’ve played against teams like Austria, France, and Italy. Every match is a chance to learn, adapt, and grow.

Cricket in Germany has its own challenges—limited grounds, fewer coaches, and indoor training during harsh winters. Most matches happen in summer, so balancing school, travel, and training takes effort. But when something matters to you, you find a way.
Initially, many of my classmates didn’t know much about cricket. But over time, interest has grown. I feel proud seeing younger kids, especially girls, take up the sport. That’s what motivates me—to show it’s possible to start from scratch and reach the international stage. I am grateful for the support of my parents, family members, friends, and coaches.

One match that stayed with me was when I was brought in to bowl at a crucial point. The pressure was high, but I focused and got a breakthrough on my second ball. That moment reminded me—when you trust yourself, even small efforts can shift the game.
No matter where you come from, if you stay consistent and serious, the opportunities will come. You don’t need to wait for permission to start.”
