“I was always passionate about doing something on my own. Having said that, I was not a bright student in school, and taking orders was never my deal. I desired to be my own boss. I was born in Hyderabad and brought up in Chennai and dropped out of school after 10th grade. In due course, my family and I decided to shift back to Hyderabad.
Show me an empty room and I can turn it around into a quaint place within no time. Interior designing came to me naturally. My mother too had the fascination for collecting one-of-a-kind pieces of home décor from different countries that we would visit. She sewed our house into a cozy, warm place with her exquisite taste.
Through my friends and family, I managed to bag some interior designing projects, which helped me overcome a dark phase, which pushed me to start working at a young age. After working through several odd jobs, It was only pertinent for me to pursue interior designing because that is where my heart belonged. I have always leaned towards creative fields. Thanks to my connections with architects, I educated myself with some practical knowledge of the craft. I spent my time deliberating ideas with them, which indeed helped me.
After enrolling myself with a digital platform, I chose to start my own practice at the age of 17. With each passing day, I sharpened my knowledge and managed to do quite a few projects- both residential and hospitality in Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad.
In 2011 when I launched my own Interior Design firm, I met the love of my life. He was one of my clients. Sparks flew almost immediately and the rest is history. I stopped Interior Designing right after my husband and I were blessed with a baby girl.
I wanted to do something on my own again, as being a homebody was never my thing. Once my daughter grew big enough, I had decided to get back on my feet again. One day, a friend and I decided to visit a nail spa and thought about how we could do a great job in this field. We wanted to launch an exclusive luxury brand of the same. That is when we decided on venturing into the luxurious nail spa business. We opened a franchise of a nail salon in Hyderabad. The responses were beyond our expectations and then corona happened.
Most of our staff left during the lockdown. Since I grew up fighting the odds, challenges like these only pushed and motivated me to combat the crisis courageously. It has been a rollercoaster ride to say the least when I describe my journey. I am proud of myself for designing my life the way I envisaged it.
Sometimes in life, we have to view our lows as stepping stones and always be hopeful of life and its beautiful curves. To sum it all, practical challenges that we face in life and overcome teaches us much more in depth than any syllabi in the world.”
