“I was 11 when I got married and left home. I have 11 children, all married and settled. In almost 50 years of my married life, every time there’s a fight, I keep quiet and let my husband talk. More than superiority, it was about ending the argument. But today, women don’t think like this. Honestly, they’re not to be blamed. For the longest time, men have suppressed women in all phases of life – professionally, personally and sexually. Women want to put an end to that and want to be treated equally, which is absolutely justified.

When my father got me married, he told my mother-in-law that I didn’t even know how to sweep the house. Back then, it was a huge thing to not know household chores. But I was a child and my mother-in-law wasn’t a rude person at all… Nothing like what they show in daily soaps. I
learnt everything from her and she lived with us for more than 15 years. But, today, if my daughter-in-law wants to move out, who am I to object? It’s their lives and they have the right to choose. If that’s what keeps them happy, then so be it. Every generation brings change and we should accept that to lead a peaceful life.”
