“Just go ahead, Shyam. We all are with you. I am sure we will be in a good position soon.” These are the words my wife told me when I decided to leave my hometown, Lucknow, to make a better living.
It’s been over three years since I started selling bags across various market areas in big cities. Till then, for nearly 15 years, I was into farming. However, things turned worse when we suffered massive losses. It was not easy moving around from one place to another but I forced myself to take care of my children. My wife’s support during those difficult times is what kept me going in life.
I get these bags from wholesale vendors in Delhi and Mumbai. As the stock gets over, I place orders once every two weeks or once a month. I inform wholesale suppliers when I need the new stock and remit the cash via ATM. The stock arrives by train.
The cost of each bag varies, from Rs. 200 to Rs. 800. I am at work from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. I work on all days, including Sundays.
Ever since the Covid 19 situation in India came into control, footfall has increased. That has reflected on my business and I just hope this new year will bring in new opportunities and prosperity to everyone around.”
