“Coming from a defense family, my only dream was to serve the nation. I wanted to join the Indian Navy, just like my father. I was sure I’d make it.
Then one day, I injured my left arm in the gym. I didn’t think too much of it and took rest for a couple days. The pain worsened, but my bones and muscles diagnosed perfectly well. The pain killers prescribed by doctors didn’t help either. After consulting many doctors, one specialist mentioned the possibility of a nerve issue. But my mom refused to believe him. My condition worsened to an extent where I couldn’t lift even small items by myself. My muscles started to atrophy due to lack of movement and exercise. After various trials on my hand, ranging from needles to electric current, I
was finally diagnosed with Nerve Damage.
In that moment, it seemed like I’d lost everything. I was clueless and confused. I could see my dreams and ambitions come crashing before me. As luck would’ve had it, it was the ‘college entrance exam season’. I was too disturbed to perform well and the thought of letting my parents down was too much to take. It was a terrible year.
But through it all, my family and friends stood by me like a rock. It was for them that I decided to pull myself together and focus again. They were proud of me for trying, despite all that I went through. They cheered me everytime I felt low and always managed to keep me in high spirits. It is because of them that I’m here, in college, today, trying not best at life and I’d like to take a moment to thank them. Through it all, I learnt that life is going to be shit. The best we can do is find good company.”
