“Having a Master’s in Business Administration and English literature, I never thought that I would start a completely different firm.
It all started the day I was sitting idle and glanced at the door hanging in our house. I wondered who made a piece of work so intricate. I asked my mom about it. To my amazement, she answered saying it was her.
I was fascinated about the method that was used to make the door hanging that, I decided to learn this art form – one that uses different types of yarns to make a finished product of clothing and accessories using a single hook.
Fast forward a few years, I was going through a dull period in my life when I turned back to this almost forgotten skill of mine. I started gifting handmade stuff to a few friends of mine. Seeing the tremendous response I received, I decided to pursue it full time – all within a span of 6 months! And I wanted to spread this skill to everyone else. Thus, I started workshops where I could teach others as well and help them make products with crochet!
The initial days with the firm were quite challenging and there were lots of turbulences. This phase was a testing period but I was determined to keep plodding through the rough. As the saying goes, when the going gets tough, the tough gets going. Making it to the other side was one of the most fulfilling experiences for me!
My first major breakthrough came when I exhibited a giant crochet installation at the Maker Faire Hyderabad, which is one of India’s largest Maker events. My work got a humongous response for being quite distinctive and unique!
It’s been a year and a half since I trod down the road less travelled and that has given me some important life lessons as well! My dream is to bring out many more innovative products and take crochet to every corner of the world!”
