“I grew up in the gullys of Bowenpally in Hyderabad. Both my parents worked hard and were always supportive. They gave me the freedom to pursue all my interests. And that’s how I chose Mass Communication and Journalism in my Graduation and Post Graduation. I got into photography while I was pursuing my higher studies.
In Banglore, when I was studying at Christ University, I had a whole circle of friends outside college who were older to me. They used to take care of me. We used to hang out a lot. We used to frequent events and night life in the Bangalore city. That’s where I made contacts and started pursuing photography and writing. After I finished my degree, I worked as a publisher for Thomson and Reuters. During my post graduation, I started working as a freelance photographer and writer.
Being a media professional, people assume that our work is pretty easy and manageable. But that’s not necessarily the case. For instance, you won’t have proper shift timings. You have to work around the clock. However there are many perks as well. As a freelancer, you have work multiple jobs and take up every opportunity that comes your way, thereby making contacts & honing your skills.
While I was working as a technical writer, I found that job too tedious for my personality. That’s when I started researching and applying for jobs that required me to travel. That led to an opportunity to work on a Disney Cruise ship as a photographer. I used to photograph guests along with Disney characters across the ship and at ports of call. On ship, I was working with crew members and staff from over 50 nationalities. It was an insightful experience.
I moved back to India in 2016 and got into music and events full time. I have been a Karaoke Jockey for over five years now. At the same time, I have performed live music with various artists and bands within India and abroad.
Once the COVID 19 pandemic stuck the country in 2020, I had to improvise my profession and take my live music online due to physical restrictions of events. Streaming live music online helped me gain followers from across the globe.
It was during the second wave of lockdown restrictions that I got a call from the director of St. Joseph’s College who got a referral from my degree college professor. That’s how I got into lecturing which has been one of the best life experiences so far. I teach BA and MA students subjects such as Photography, Filmmaking, New Media technologies, Print Journalism, Digital Audio Production, and media related subjects.
My philosophy is to try out everything in life, make mistakes, learn from them, grow and stay happy.”
