“We make utensils and our speciality is copper polished pieces. This takes a lot of hard work and patience because it demands the attention of 5 workers on one utensil with the heat at high temperatures. We’ve been doing this for 25 years now. Most of our utensils are sold to restaurants as Biryani pots. These are the ones, which are used to make the delicious Hyderabadi Dum Biryani. But nowadays, people don’t want to spend much. They’re opting for steel and aluminium, and that’s leaving us in losses. Let alone the loss, the Biryani is also not up to the mark these days, because they don’t prepare it in the authentic way using copper vessels. We don’t have any financial support from anyone. There is a dearth of skilled workers, who can understand and execute the elaborate process of making copper utensils. As a result, we’re also shutting down this business. Fortunately, I’ve managed to get my children educated. I am sure, they’ll open a more relevant business that suits today’s world and we’ll stop making utensils. Inshallah!”
