“My upbringing taught me to be kind and respectful of others’ culture and backgrounds. I think that’s what helps me live in a city like Hyderabad where people from so many cultures and backgrounds mutually and happily co-exist. Growing up in a supportive and tight-knit family, I was nervous when I landed in Hyderabad to study. In my country Syria, people think highly of India and its citizens. Before I came, I did a lot of research about the place and the people, but there’s nothing like experiencing it first hand. Luckily, everybody has been extremely kind and helpful here. Even when I don’t go asking for help, locals come to me and offer to assist. They’re caring and loving, like my own family. I’ve travelled across the city and it amazes me how just 30 minutes away, everything is so different – from Gachibowli to Old City. It’s almost like another city and that’s the beauty of it! There’s so much to explore in terms of food and culture. Even in my University, there are people from different countries and that allows all of us to exchange thoughts and perceptions. It’s been a great experience so far and I can’t wait to unveil the rest!”
