“I have always had a very supportive family, who encouraged me to pursue anything which I wanted in life. I am a Hardware Engineer by qualification. I had moved to the US for my Master’s in Electronics and Communications. After my Master’s, I had worked with various MNCs in the US for more than 15 years and returned to India in 2016.
When you are far away from home, you realise that your culture and language are the two things that tie you back home. And getting an opportunity to be a part of the growth story of something that many generations have dreamt of is the reason I came back.
I had joined the Government of Telangana in 2016 as Joint Director for Electronics. It was a great moment for me to apply my technical and corporate expertise to policy implementation, research, and investment promotions.
Around the same time, the Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) was held in Hyderabad with the theme ‘Women First, Prosperity for All.’ This summit led to an immediate action of creating a platform that encourages, scales up, and creates a funnel for more women to be a part of the entrepreneurial ecosystem. That’s how WE Hub came into being.
The minister announced WE Hub on November 30 2017, and I was appointed CEO since inception. WE HUB is the first-of-its-kind and only State-run platform for Women Entrepreneurs to start, scale and achieve global market access. WE HUB was formally launched on International Women’s Day on the 8th of March 2018. The services we provide include seed funding, mentoring, business guidance, Government liaison which will help women establish their enterprises.
We also enable women entrepreneurs from various sectors to startup and scale up by providing support in funding, mentoring, strategy and growth as part of the incubation program. Apart from that, we are also making efforts to attract women entrepreneurs from rural areas.
With the changing scenario and more women being part of the economic workforce, professional guidance is essential. We are glad that we were able to impact more than 3500 entrepreneurs so far and we believe we have a long way to go forward, to make a positive difference in people’s lives.”
