“Today marks the final day of our pilgrimage to Medaram, and what an incredible journey it has been. As we head towards the sacred grounds, I feel a surge of pride knowing I can share this experience with my little one for the first time, especially considering Medaram Jatara’s nomination for UNESCO’s prestigious ‘intangible cultural heritage of humanity’ designation.
Walking through the village, we’re surrounded by a sea of people, all making their way to pay homage to Sammakka and Sarakka. It’s amazing to witness how this once-quiet village has transformed into a bustling hub of activity. The local vendors line the streets, offering everything from traditional snacks to handmade crafts, adding a vibrant touch to the festivities.
Passing by Jampannavagu, I’m reminded of its significance in our local folklore. The gentle flow of the water serves as a reminder of the harmonious relationship between nature and spirituality, a connection deeply ingrained in our culture.
Reaching the spot where Sammakka and Sarakka are revered, I’m struck by a sense of devotion and happiness. The ancient figures stand tall, surrounded by offerings and prayers from devotees. It’s a once in a lifetime experience to be in the presence of such history and tradition.
As the day draws to a close, we begin our journey back home, carrying with us memories that will last a lifetime. The sights, sounds, and smells of Medaram Jatara will stay with us, a testament to the richness of our cultural heritage. And as we bid farewell to this sacred place, I know that we will carry its spirit with us wherever we go.”
