“The functionality of my brain was doubted. When I was around 7 years old, I had a terrible accident, suffered a head injury and was left bed ridden for the rest of the year. The doctors wondered if I’d be able to think properly again. But thankfully about 30 days after the injury, my brain was working completely fine. My parents realised that for things to remain this way, it’s necessary to exercise the brain. They bought me many popular puzzle and riddle books written by the likes of Shakuntala Devi. It was then that they noticed I performed arithmetic calculations moderately well. Hence began my journey with arithmetic. I started practicing meticulously for hours together, every day. From the district level to national level and eventually the global level, I won all the mental math championships, even before I could finish class 10. I realised that I must aim at more than just being the best at championships- I must aim at being the best there has ever been. That pushed me to attempt breaking and making world records. With over 50 Limca Book Records and 4 World Records including the title of the ‘Fastest Human Calculator’, a record once held by Shakuntala Devi, I realised my journey had only begun. But there’s two sides to every coin. While on one side people from all across the globe were recognizing me and my hardwork, many people also passed unsolicited comments. “It’s a godgift! He’s probably memorised all the values! Not everyone can do it, he’s a blessed child! His parents are straining him too much . He’s too young for this. This is not a career path! GRE and SATs must be a cake walk for him”. I never fell short of unnecessary feedback from both known and unknown people. But math happens in the mind. If we train our brains hard enough, they can be made capable of doing anything! Through my start up, I aim to make Arithmetic literacy accessible in government schools. Because the next fastest Human Calculator or any other star performer lies amongst us. All that is required to shine, is dedication and hardwork!”
