“The majority of the daily wage laborers hail from Bihar and it’s through the local contractors that we get to know about the work opportunities here. Of course, it’s hard to stay away from our family members for several months but we don’t have an option. It’s a matter of survival for us. We don’t get many work opportunities other than in the most happening cities like Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Surat. We chose Hyderabad as the people here in Hyderabad are very good, and it’s the best place to get work for most of us considering the cost of living standards and food.

Of course, I will have to work for a shift of 8-9 hours a day in the construction sector but I am happy with my day’s pay. We are paid based on the tasks but on average we earn anywhere close to 600-900 Rupees a day. Our job requires us to stay alert and active all the time. Thankfully, we are given all the protective gear while working and we are treated very well here in Hyderabad.

My aim in life is to build a small house on my own in my hometown and I will continue to work hard until that day comes!”
