“I come from a family with a musical background. When I was very young, I used to listen to my mom sing for me and my brother. Listening to her made me develop an interest in music. And my mom was my first music teacher.
My name is Rajani Sree Poornima. I started singing when I was 6. Initially, I was more interested in dancing rather than singing. But later, when my mom recognised that I could sing in proper shruti and laya, I completely switched to music. And my mom taught me the fundamentals of music
Later, my parents enrolled me in Carnatic vocal classes under various eminent music teachers in Hyderabad such as Sri G.V. Prabhakar Garu, Sri Ramachary garu, and later, Sri Vadali Phani Narayana Garu. Parallelly, I took piano classes and finished 5 grades under Late Joseph Thomas sir at the Joseph Thomas Institute (affiliated with ABRSM).
To showcase my singing skills, I gave several singing auditions at various music reality shows with the encouragement of my parents. However, I initially couldn’t get through any of those due to stage fright and lack of confidence. But I never gave up. I worked constantly to overcome my weaknesses. I considered every failure as a lesson to get better.
But in 2017, I finally got through an audition for ETV Padutha Theeyaga (a popular Telugu singing show) hosted by the Legendary singer Late Sri S.P. Balasubrahmanyam garu. My parents, especially my mom, spent several late nights helping me prepare for the show. With my family’s endless support and hard work, I became the winner of that edition of Padutha Theeyaga.
This gave me the confidence and the opportunity I needed for my music career. Later I performed with Late S. P . Balasubrahmanyam Garu in a fundraising show.
And in December 2021, I struck the opportunity to work with the legendary music director Sri M.M.Keeravani garu for the movie, RRR. He let me showcase my music skills for the promo music video of the song, “Raamam Raghavam”. I also got a chance to perform at the RRR movie pre-release events in Mumbai and Bangalore along with several great singers and musicians.
I am very much thankful to everybody who supported me. I’m very fortunate to have a very supportive family. My end goal is to work harder, make use of these opportunities and do what I always loved to do: make music.”
