Under 16 State Woman player.
Batting–Right Handed.
Bowling–Pace Bowler.
This is me.
I have been watching my father play cricket every evening of his life, since I was 4 years old. Cricket was what kept my father occupied most of the time. Seeing his passion for it, my curiosity to try the sport increased. The curiosity started consuming me, slowly. That was when I found my calling. I was lucky to have it figured out at such a young age. My father was the one who taught me the nuances of the sport.
My parents were skeptical in the beginning because if one has to play cricket, they need to do so diligently. Even a small ligament tear can abrupt the entire routine. Undaunted, I started my coaching when I was 7 years. Juggling my time with training, academics and physical fitness, was not easy. After a few months into coaching, I started winning tons of district level matches. My efforts were worth it.
It has been 8 years since and yet it feels like it is day one. My biggest inspiration besides my father, are Mithali Raj and Dhoni. I sometimes try to include a few of their strokes in my game. In 2016, I won the inter school Women’s Cricket tournament, clinching the Twin Cities Championship. That was my first taste of success and my passion ignited ten fold.
A year later, my dream came true when I was officially selected for the South Indian Inter State tournament in under 16 category. Winning that tournament is something I’ll always cherish. Surprisingly, I was promoted to be an Opener in the following matches after that. It was during this time that my sister began showing interest in the game. It’s unbelievable how fast she picked up the sport. 6 years later, now–she is a left handed Batswoman,U-12 District level player.
However, it was not always a joyride. From being ridiculed for choosing an unconventional path for girls of my age to not focusing enough on academics, we have been consistent victims of various kinds of shaming. But, pushing those aside, today I am a part for under 19 match I am unapologetically fearless . I am determined to practice 4 hours everyday no matter what. “Why should we ever give up!? “We are going to fulfill our dream of playing for our Nation and win the hearts of people!
