“I wasn’t interested in academics at all, so after my Class 7, I discontinued my school and took up the responsibilities of handling this garage along with my brother. I also did a special training workshop in repairing the bike engines too. I spent 2 years in training working under our Malik before taking the responsibilities completely.
I work all days a week with a 12 hours shift. I repair a wide range of bike models from Hero, TVS, Honda, including old Bullets. However, I don’t repair very old models – 70s. It is extremely difficult to get their spare parts so we stopped repairing the old motorcycles.
Some of my customers believe that old bikes are better. I don’t think so. I feel the only advantage of old bikes is that they are solidly built with metallic bodies, unlike the new bikes which are mostly made of fiber and plastic parts. The recent models have more horsepower and give smoother rides. When it comes to spare parts, most of the current model bike parts are easy to get in the market. We always stock up the regularly required parts such as tyres, lubricants and cables. I spend my free time watching movies and webseries. Salman Bhai is my favourite actor.
As a mechanic, I always try to work hard and update my knowledge on bikes. It’s been 9 years since I have been working in this field. When I began working here full time, I met a lot of customers who were reluctant to hand over their vehicles as I was a teenager. I had to prove my worth every single day and I worked on it. But over the years, the same people refuse to take their vehicles to anyone other than me and I feel proud about it!”
