“I am a National Award Winner and I can’t be more proud of that laughs.
Coming from a traditional, orthodox family, education always took top priority. Just like any other middle-class family, mine too focused on seeing their children ace studies and get a stable job. Well, life had something different planned for me.
Early on in life, I had decided to step into the world of colour. I was glued to painting until I was in class 10. After a small hiatus, colours splashed back into my life during college.
I got my first computer when I was in my degree first year. I began to explore every ‘art’ option available on it. Colours always had a special place in my heart. My friend familiarized me with Photoshop. With great determination, I explored and learnt to use the software to the optimum level all by myself.
I started editing pictures clicked by my budding photography friends. With trial and error, I kept improving my knowledge in editing, colour coordination etc. In fact, colour coordination became my forte. My passion for editing stayed with me even when I was pursuing MBA in the United Kingdom. In no time, even I jumped into photography. I started clicking pictures of things and people that appealed to me.
After working day in and day out, I bought my first DSLR and there was no looking back. There was an inundated flow of creative juices. I felt alive and myself each time I held the camera, clicked pictures and sat down to edit them.
After coming back to my home land, I learnt about the ‘The Hyderabad Weekend Shoots’. In a heartbeat, I enrolled myself in the club. I realised creativity has more hold in photography than technicalities. I learnt a lot through the people I was surrounded with.
Gradually, my plate was full with photography gigs. I immersed myself in doing what I love the most. The best part is I was paid to do what I love.
The times have changed now. Photography has become more commercial than ever. There is less of emotion and more of materialistic approach.
Coming back to the positive side, photographers are lucky to have the opportunity to travel around. I couldn’t be more lucky to have had the opportunity to click pictures of various people and know about a myriad of cultures.
Among the accolades I have earned with my hardwork, two events stand out for me. My picture won a national award. Just when I was processing the win, the same picture got chosen by National Geographic among 45000 pictures from India.
Just like any other Indian family, mine too was skeptical about the field I chose. Over a period, they understood my zeal for the craft. Thanks to their support, I am now being recognised. I always tell my near and dear ones to ensure they fill their soul too along with their pockets. There is nothing more soul satisfying than waking up and doing what we truly believe in.”
