“Storytelling has been a part of our Indian culture since ages resonating through our Cheriyal scroll paintings. Originating from the historic town of Cheriyal in the Siddipet district of Telangana, our family has upheld this ancient tradition for generations.
In the past, storytellers traversed villages, sharing narratives through songs, puppetry, and art. These tales were brought to life through scrolls crafted by artisans like us, captivating audiences with their imagery. Today, we continue this tradition, infusing our paintings with mythological stories, folklore, and snippets of daily life, all while maintaining the distinctive Telangana flavor. Led by my father, D. Vaikuntam, a master craftsman and National Awardee, we take pride in our expertise in Cheriyal scroll paintings.
Despite the number of families practicing this craft, we remain committed to preserving our heritage and passing it on to future generations. Our dedication has propelled Cheriyal scroll paintings beyond boundaries, with our artworks now showcased on a global stage.
As Nakashi Artists, we stand as torchbearers of our cultural legacy, striving to elevate Cheriyal scroll paintings to a revered art form worldwide.”
