“Growing up, I always felt like I didn’t fit into the expectations around me, and finding my place in the world wasn’t easy. Living as a trans woman came with its challenges, and there were days when just getting through felt like a battle. Like many in my community, I faced moments of struggle and uncertainty. But deep down, I always believed I could create a better life for myself-I just needed a chance.
In 2021, that chance came when I found a Skill Development Program through the Telangana State Government. I enrolled in a training program for jute bag manufacturing, and it changed everything for me. Surrounded by supportive trainers and other trans women, I began to see a path forward.
Starting my own venture, Premleela Creations, was indeed a proud moment in life. I design and sell eco-friendly jute and cotton bags, and seeing my work appreciated by customers keeps me going in life. It’s not just about business, though. I wanted to help others like me, so I began training trans women and women from my community, sharing the skills I had learned.
Recently, with the support from Apollo Tyres, I am working as a jute bag trainer, helping others earn a sustainable livelihood. And through the Telangana Indira Mahila Shakti Scheme, we’ll soon have a permanent stall at Shilparamam to showcase my work.
Of course, challenges remain-there’s still stigma and discrimination, and many in the trans community struggle for basic opportunities. But change is happening. Initiatives like hiring trans individuals as traffic volunteers show that society is starting to take steps toward inclusion.
For me, the journey has been about resilience. Today, my business has several clients, and I’ve built a life I’m proud of. My dream is to keep growing, to build a home that reflects the effort and love I’ve put into this life, and to inspire others to believe in themselves.
We all deserve a chance to live with dignity and pride. I hope my story reminds others that no matter where you start, it’s always possible to create something beautiful for yourself and your community.”
