“I have lived in the Kothagudem region all throughout so far and almost 32 years of these years have been spent working in the coalmines. After all these years, I am proud to be addressed as a Singareni worker.

I started my career with a very basic stream of work as a Badli Pillar and then got promoted as a Floating Pillar. Now I am serving as the mining Operator for the last 11 years. There are many threats in this field, however, we work with dedication to serve society. I am only one of the several thousands of workers in Singareni Collieries who work hard under extreme conditions. The heat, smoke, and coal gases — all combine to bring furrows to our faces.

While the benefits of coal are countless, I do agree with the fact that coal mining is an environmentally degrading activity. However, our company, Singareni Collieries, has launched several environment friendly practices and tree plantation initiatives to mitigate the damage and improve the quality of life.

I have had my share of difficulties being a coal miner but what I am proud of is the spirit of our workers’ union who are always on the go despite the extreme conditions. Apart from the work, our company also organises yearly sporting activities. I am happy to represent our company in the Senior Tennis Men’s Tournament and we look forward in bringing accolades to our company.”
