“These lockdown days remind me of life back in the 60’s and 70’s. I used to live in a small bachelor room in Ameerpet and would ride up and down from my room to office at Balanagar on my bicycle with great joy – no traffic to worry about, racing around with friends for work. The mornings were pleasant with trees everywhere along with different kinds of birds chirping which would sound like a melody to my ears. Every once in a while a vehicle would pass by with absolutely no population around. There used to be big rocks around the city during those days and a huge rock was a temptation for us to trek. Believe it or not, we would fetch for drinking water from the rock springs too. With such lush greenery and pure water holes amidst the rocks, Hyderabad was a real paradise for everyone of us.
I think it was in 70’s that I got married and I would take my wife for an outing every weekend. I remember Hussain Sagar used to be clean and shiny like a large glittering silver sheet. I vividly remember, my father in law would bring rice sack full of farm fresh custurd apples during the winter season by loading it on his bicycle before anyone buys it.
Back then, there was no house help at our place. I would help my family after I return home from work while my father used to cut vegetables near the veranda. I can never forget the incredible aromas of dishes being prepared in the kitchen and the best part was taking a short nap during the noon after a heavy meal with the old telugu songs of Gantasala Venkateshwara Rao and S. Rajeswara Rao playing in the background on the radio. Trust me, it felt like heaven!
Life back then was full of happiness with real, engaging conversations along with family members and friends. Sometimes I thought I could rewind back to those good old days but I have never anticipated that this particular situation would occur. Good or bad, let’s take the positive side of it and reinvent our lives from now. After all, we live only once and the best thing we can do right now is to stay at home by following all the precautionary measures. Let’s paint some beautiful family memories in our lives too!”
