“Sankranti is the most important festival that we look forward to every year. It’s when we celebrate the harvest and the change of seasons. For three days, we sing, walk with our Gangireddu door to door on streets, and pray for a good harvest. The sounds of the drums and the Gangireddu’s bells feel like a part of us, tied to everything we’ve grown up with.
On Kanuma, we honor cattle for the vital role they play in farming and our daily lives. It’s our way of showing gratitude for their hard work and recognizing their importance in agriculture and the ecosystem.
Haridasulu also join us, carrying copper pots, tamburas, and anklets, singing harikeerthanas as they walk through the streets. These aren’t just old customs—they’re what keep us connected to our roots, reminding us to pass them on to the next generation.”
