“School education is essential to living a decent life for any person. Unfortunately, not everyone gets the privilege of good education early from their childhood.
When I was pursuing my graduation, I have come across a lot of instances where children in the slums couldn’t get proper education due to a lack of resources. That’s when I have decided to establish a school for those children along with five other teachers as volunteers.
Almost 18 years ago, this entire lane was a slum. Since most of the migrants here were daily wage workers, they could not accompany their children to the nearest government school which was far away. That’s when I took the responsibility of teaching their children. Yes, it is extremely difficult to convince their parents to send their children to school. There were also a few young boys and girls who had dropped out of their studies for the past two years, and I had requested their parents to send their children to school. Gradually they understood my concern and started sending their children. It’s been a roller coaster ride for the last two decades of my journey as a teacher but I was able to educate at least 100-120 students every academic year until class 4 for free of cost.
Mostly, financial disparities play a role in the lack of interest in sending their children. But, the situation can be improved. Quality primary education will give them a foundation to pursue their high education and I just hope that we could receive some support from the local authorities and government so that could continue to procure quality education for these children.”
