“I wanted to wear a police uniform ever since I was a child. Growing up, I used to imitate police officers holding a lathi, wearing a cap and saluting their seniors with pride. That would give me a great satisfaction.
I come from a poor agricultural family and having three square meals a day was a burden. Despite all the financial difficulties at home, I never gave up on my dream to become a police officer. I would go to college during the day and help my mom at tailoring in the evenings. After I completed my Intermediate, I accidentally saw a police recruitment notification in a newspaper and applied for it without the knowledge of my family. When I was in my degree second year, I got selected for the police job and completed my police training along with my graduation. My dream turned into reality and I was posted as a woman police constable at the Nacharam Police station in 2014. In 2016, I got married in and we moved to Hyderabad permanently along with my family. In these six years of my service in the department, I have never looked back and it’s only been possible because of the increadible support and guidance from the higher officials.
The moment the lockdown was announced, we were all given various responsibilities and I was stationed near the Chakripuram check post in Kushaiguda P.S. limits for vehicle checks. My current job is to check the vehicles of lockdown violators and also create awareness among the public about the COVID-19 situation.
It’s been 44 days so far and I have not taken a single holiday during this lockdown period. I have a two and half year old son who waits for me all day until I get back home, but for me, duty comes first. Yes, our job requires incredible amount of commitment. Yes, we will have to make a lot of sacrifices but we will always remember that we are chosen for the service of the people.
Do you know what gives us the courage to do our duty during these challenging times? It’s you. Your endless love. Your invaluable support and cooperation during these terrible times. Thank you, Hyderabad!”
