“Food has always been my first love. I believe food is the way to one’s heart. As a kid, I used to accompany my father wherever he went and all I would look out for was restaurants. Right after getting down the bus, I’d try asking people for some restaurant suggestions. However far they were, I used to walk down to the place and enjoy my meal.
I am from Anantapur, I majored in Telecommunications engineering. I have always had an entrepreneurial spirit in me. Even while I was working for eight years in a non-business sector, I was parallelly doing a few businesses of my own. Around the same time, my brother and I had planned on starting a coffee shop. But well, we never had the guts to do so. We weren’t aware of how a restaurant or a café worked by then.We always wanted to bring in something authentic, something our ammamas used to cook back in their days. We wanted the present generation to taste such delicacies. No matter, how westernized the food we consume becomes, we believe the roots shall never be forgotten. This is what we at Ulvacharu Restaurant try to narrate with the food we serve.
As restaurant owners, the appreciation we get from our customers is what matters the most to us. It’s the best feeling to see our customers walk out of the door with a satisfied belly. The proudest moment is when we see well-known people and country diplomats trying our food. I remember having goosebumps when I had the opportunity to serve the President of India. It felt like a dream come true. We also have actors visiting our restaurant. I once had Sri Devi Garu call me and request a dish that she used to have as a kid. Such comfort from our customers is heart-warming to see.Our father has always been a pillar of strength in our lives. It was with his money that we were able to start Ulvacharu. I remember, a few days before he passed away, we were talking about how well-known people come to our restaurant. All he would say is you started this because of me so I am going to take all the credit.
Coming from a rural background we have seen how tough it is for farmers to survive and live a life as wished for. I was in 7th standard when I witnessed the pain one goes through to satisfy one family. My uncle and I were waiting at the station and saw a few farmers get off the train and buy a packet of bread. After which they divided each bread into three parts and took it for their families back home. Incidents like these still motivate and push me to do something for them. Apart from helping farmers in every way we can, we also send food from our restaurant to orphans every year. During the first and second lockdowns, we have distributed free food and buttermilk to the frontline warriors, migrant workers and it certainly increased our responsibility to many folds.”
