“I am a second generation owner of this scrap shop. My father started this business when I was a kid. I presently run the shop.
It’s been more than 18 years and I am proud to be in this line of work of collecting and recycling scrap. Not only newspapers, but I also collect a scrap of all sorts like old iron, cardboard, school books, used glass bottles, etc, and send it for recycling.
I come here by 8 a.m. every day and I go on the streets on my bike to ask for the scrap. But things have changed nowadays and people are shifting to the new means of consuming news on smartphones and other electronic devices.
It has certainly affected our mainstay – of buying and selling old newspapers. Yes, it’s difficult to earn profits out of this business but I only know this work and I am hoping that things change for better soon.”
