“Cricket has always been more than a sport; it’s a bond that connects generations. Growing up in Kashmir valley, I witnessed local artisans craft Kashmir willow into high-quality bats, however, there’s no recognition for our Indian made Kashmir Willow cricket bats as compared to English Willow bats.
I spent my childhood observing the art of bat-making. Despite the meticulous craftsmanship, we lacked recognition even in the local market.
In 2010, I decided to change this. With no financial backing, I took over the business and invested everything I had, even selling part of our family land. My brother, Mohammad Niaz ul Kabir, and I worked tirelessly to elevate our product. We upgraded our facilities, traveled to learn from experts, and ensured our bats met international standards. Our breakthrough came in 2021 when GR8 Sports became the first Kashmir willow bat manufacturer to receive ICC approval.
That same year, our bats debuted at the T20 World Cup, used by Oman players Naseem Khushi and Bilal Khan. In 2022, UAE’s Junaid Siddique hit a record-breaking 109-meter six with our bat. Today, our bats are used by international players in both men’s and women’s cricket, as well as in Legends League Cricket.
What sets us apart is the affordability and performance of our bats. They cost a fraction of English willow bats but offer unmatched quality. It’s a massive boost to Indian craftsmanship, and we’re committed to taking our locally made bats to the global stage.
We also prioritize sustainability. For every three bats sold, we plant a tree, supporting both the environment and the livelihoods of those who depend on the industry.
Today, our bats are exported across India and other countries. I’ve always had a special place in my heart for Hyderabad and its people, their love for cricket, and their unwavering spirit.
Recently, our GR8 Sports has been awarded the prestigious title of ‘Startup Maharathi in Gaming & Sports’ at Startup Mahakumbh 2025, held at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.
