“Being married at the age of 16 took away a lot of experiences from my life. I had my son only a year later. My sisters all finished their post graduations but here I was, feeling like my life was incomplete. Thankfully, my husband helped out a lot around the house and with the kids, but it still led to me developing health problems. I always wanted to be a doctor, but alas, that could not happen.
All of this changed when I began working with acupuncture. In fact, it felt like my life was twice as complete. I was also very interested in making sarees and dresses for my daughter, doing rangoli, and I also adore cooking! In fact, ETV came over one day to film my cooking!
The kids left the city in 2011, so I had a lot more time on my hands. I decided to pick myself up and start doing something. I’m constantly in pain because of a back injury- I had tried allopathy, homeopathy, all kinds of treatments, but nothing has helped. Just when I had decided to make something of my life, it got taken from me because I was always bedridden because of the pain. I began spiralling into sadness, until someone recommended acupuncture to me. I went begrudgingly because I had given up hope by that point. After four sittings, I finally felt normal again. It was such a surprise! Of course, acupuncture can seem scary but I was already in so much pain, some needles really weren’t too daunting. Immediately, I went back to the doctor and found out how to get into the field. It changed my life, after all, and I wanted to complete that circle of fulfillment.
I began my research and enrolled myself into a diploma course in acupuncture. After graduating, in two years, I had treated over 10,000 people, my business really took off. It was so moving when people would say I had done God’s work for them and changed their lives, much like that acupuncturist changed mine. I’ve always told my kids that their identities are built on their education and profession, especially because I didn’t have the opportunity, but now that I have, I feel accomplished and complete in life!”
