“I am Rukma, from Bangariguda village in Adilabad. Making Ranjans has been our family’s work for generations.

Every year, from January to April, we prepare the clay by mixing red and black soil, sand from dried ponds, and other natural materials to make it strong. Then we shape each pot by hand and fire it. This is how we learnt it from our elders.

There was a time when summers meant good business. People would come looking for Ranjans because the water stays cool naturally. Those months would help us manage for the rest of the year.

But things have changed now. After COVID, and with refrigerators and plastic cans everywhere, people have slowly stopped buying our pots. Some days, we don’t sell even one.

Many families here have already left this work because it is no longer enough to survive. But we are still continuing, because this is all we know.

I don’t want this tradition to disappear. If people support us and choose to use Ranjans, we can continue this work and keep it alive.”
