“Most of my day revolves around my husband and our children, which is a choice I gladly made!
I never thought that a woman like me, from a small town in Punjab, would get to see the wonders of the world. But I did and I consider myself lucky.
I had a wonderful childhood. My favourite thing to do was play in the rice mill that was run by my father. Life in Punjab was lively and beautiful until the riots took place. That was when my family and I moved to Delhi, where I did a fashion designing course. At 24 years of age, I got married.
Today, I am a mother of two and a housewife. It’s a full-time, unpaid job whose only reward is heartfelt gratitude! My husband is extremely supportive and has always pushed me to try new things. I start my day by making them breakfast and lunch, after which they all head to carry on their respective days. We often go for movies or long drives together. Initially, being a housewife was difficult because managing time was a problem and getting time for myself was impossible. But once I fell into the rhythm of it, I fell in love with my life. I have a beautiful and happy family, who love each other to the moon and back. Until, a year and a half back, I used to spend the remaining time watching television serials. Now, I have a small group of 10 women that I play cards with every evening! I love playing cards. Even when my mother would come down to spend a month with us, we’d play cards all day.
I know, most times life takes turns that we don’t expect. It is important that in such times, we stand our ground and do the things we want to. It is never too late to start. I learnt how to drive after my marriage and now I also knit, stitch and embroider. Life is all about the ups and downs, but most importantly about making the most of this once chance. I am!”
