“I came to Hyderabad from my hometown, Ghaziabad, with big dreams. My parents were happy when I completed my Intermediate education in my village. However, because of the financial difficulties at home, I decided to take up the responsibility to support my family. Presently, I am pursuing a Diploma course in Agriculture and simultaneously working here in the afternoons. This is my relative’s shop. I am an expert in making Matka Chai. I manage to support my family because of this work and I never take it for granted.
When I was new to the city, I could spot only the occasional bus or autorickshaw that was operated during the day on this route. That’s not the case anymore. More industries and private companies have been set up in this area and that helps me get more business on weekdays.
I walk every day from the hostel to the tea stall. It keeps me fit and healthy. I manage to make enough to make ends meet. I have two younger sisters and I want them to study in good English medium schools. I work hard every day and send Rs. 8,000 every month to my family. The rest goes into my expenses and savings.
I like this city very much. The people here are very helpful and they are always ready to help when in need. I don’t think I would have enjoyed working in any other city and even during the toughest of times, Hyderabad has become a second home for me!”
