“You have a curry prepared at home but are not in the mood to make Rotis? Don’t worry. All you have to do is come to our Munshi naan and pick the freshly baked naans to home(laughs).
Over the years, there are a lot of changes in this area and moreover, the competition increased among our naan makers, but we have our valued customers who still purchase their bread from us because we represent the real Nizami tehzeeb.
Our founder, Mohammed Hussain Saheb, used to work as a Munshi in one of the offices under the 4th Nizam of Hyderabad. Upon his visit to Delhi, he learnt the recipe of naan and later started here in Hyderabad almost 170 years ago.
We begin our day very early in the morning to cater to the customers particularly the students and daily wagers. We start our day at 6:30 am and sometimes even earlier depending on the orders on hand. We close the shop around 9:30 pm.
We sell close to 1200 naan every day. The chase Koni naan that costs Rs 15 per is our customers favourite indeed. We also have a few other shapes such as heart, flower, star, circle etc. Our traditional tandoor can accommodate 42 naans. It takes just 3 minutes for one batch to be made.
Even though we want to try out new varities, our regular takers want us to retain the authentic taste of the Munshi naan. So we are stuck to the same shapes and tastes for many decades.”
