“Every single conversation in my household has always revolved around food- what to eat, when to eat and where to eat! My dad being a foodie, made sure to take us to every new vegetarian restaurant in town as soon as it opened up. Granted, there weren’t a lot of vegetarian restaurants around- most of our outings were limited to Taj Mahal in Abids. I still remember the first time Ohri’s opened up a vegetarian outlet in Somajiguda; it was my first buffet!
Back in 2013, a colleague from work threw a party at a pub. To be honest, it was my first ever visit to a pub. A shady pub, at that. They insisted on the bill being paid before bringing in the food and drinks. I was amused to say the least. This humoured me to the extent that I wanted to share my views with people, and I took to Zomato and Facebook to put up my review. This pretty much started a domino effect, and reviews became an addiction. I focussed on elaborate explanations as opposed to my personal opinion on the food and experiences, which was received extremely well by the foodie community in Hyderabad. I began getting invites for tastings and reviews. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t on Cloud 9 receiving all this attention just for my passion for food. It turns out I was pretty much the only vegetarian food blogger out there, which drew attention from a whole community of vegetarians in the city!
Back in 2019, I checked in to a restaurant in Ahmedabad on my social media, to which the chef of Sheraton responded by inviting me for a tasting. This was a huge, huge achievement for me, and led to me reviewing restaurants outside of Hyderabad as well. I got invited to restaurants in Raipur, Mumbai, Visakhapatnam, and opened a whole new avenue of 5-star reviews. To be very honest, it was a struggle not to hog everything and restrict myself to just tasting, and it still is!
Today, I think Veg Chronicles has really taken off and now that I’ve managed to make it an actual profession, I think I’ve found belonging and security in my passion, something not a lot of people get to do. Sure, there are difficulties that come with it, but that only opens up more avenues for me to explore!”
