“The first time I saw him was at a wedding in 2017. He was wearing a blue kurta, and I still remember how handsome he looked with his rugged beard and white dupatta. A few years later, we happened to run into each other at another wedding, at which point we became friends. It started off with us just roasting each other, and at some point along the way, something blossomed.. but we didn’t know that yet.
One day, his mother sent over a proposal to my family. I immediately texted Sahil saying “What’s going on?”
Funnily enough, he had no idea. It was called off almost instantly. I was in no mindset to get married. I mean, I still watch Disney movies for crying out loud!
But then, time went by and I decided I was finally ready. We started looking for potential suitors but every time I tried to talk to someone, he was on the back of my mind. Unfortunately, he was almost engaged to somebody else. For some reason I picked up the phone one day, and called his mother saying “I know it’s probably too late, but I don’t want to regret not trying. If there’s a chance he will be happier with me. I’m asking for a miracle to happen.”
Things took off from there and in a matter of weeks, we were engaged! In fact, we weren’t even prepared for it, it all happened so fast. But we couldn’t have been happier. We had initially decided December of 2020 for the D day. Of course, CoVID happened and everything seemed distant. One day, during peak lockdown, we were joking around about all the zoom weddings happening around, when the fact came up that Sahil’s parents had gotten married at the time of curfew in 1990. In fact, all they had to eat at their reception was ice cream because everything was shut down! We decided what better than to follow in their footsteps, in a complete nation-wide lockdown.
After the wedding, I still remember looking at him and saying “Dude, we’re married!”, and feeling ecstatic in love. It’s been a crazy journey over the last few months. We even run a business together now! I don’t know who was looking over us that day, but I’m glad they were, because that one phone call changed the course of both our lives in the best possible way!”
