“We’ve known each other since we were little children, over 70 years now. We never went to school, but we learnt a lot from climbing trees, racing tyres and playing in the fields. Every summer, we would pluck delicious mangoes with nobody to stop us!
My friend here took care of me. He saved me from going down the wrong path in life; he got me a job, he was my mentor, but most importantly, he was and still is my best friend.
Through the years, we’ve shared many memories of travel, festivities and celebration, and now that we’re retired, it feels like we’re back in our carefree, childhood days. Every evening, we meet right here and discuss the happenings and developments around the world.
As kids, all we had to worry about was our harvest; we got plenty of rainfall, never really thought about our future, and didn’t have a care in the world. But now in the name of urbanization, all of our natural resources are being destroyed. We had no vehicles in our village, but that’s all you see here now. There is a huge disturbance in the environment. That’s definitely a result of this incessant rainfall and climate change.
All we can do now is work together towards a greener tomorrow, or we’re going to have far worse things to face ahead of us. It is high time we take responsibility for our planet and future generations.”
