“This is the connecting road to Bhoodan Pochampally town so during the wedding and festive seasons, I get to see a lot of shoppers and visitors passing by our village to buy Pochampally sarees. Some of the tourists come from foreign countries too and most of them have cameras hanging around their necks, so I’ve been photographed quite a few times- now I’m used to it! Even though I don’t really understand their language, they always try to interact with me and enquire about the culture of this region. They make me feel like a celebrity. But I don’t think I can take the complete credit for being so fit and good-looking. My goats and sheep deserve credit as I walk at least 6 km everyday herding them and that helps me stay fit even at the age of 75. This year, because of corona virus outbreak, we have no visitors passing by our village. I have never seen my village roads this empty. I am able take my goats and sheep for a walk without any concern of them getting hit by a passing vehicle. But I certainly feel sad for my weaver friends in Pochampally, as most of them are now shifting to other professions because of the lack of orders and sales. This is a tough time for everyone and no one knows when things would come back to normal. At the moment, I can only advice people to stay strong and believe in their skill.”
