“My mother was a warrior- a fighter. She taught me how to live life and how giving up is never an option. Her smile could light up an entire room.
It was on my birthday, in the year 2005, when my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. But being 10 years old, I couldn’t completely understand it.
In 2008, she was diagnosed with recurrent breast cancer and in 2017, she was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. We kept her informed about her condition because I don’t believe any one should be kept in the dark about things like this. I wanted her to live to the fullest. Instead of wallowing in our sorrow, my dad and I would take her out for movies, dinners and a lot of other things which she loved doing. I still remember, we had gone to watch the movie ‘Padmaavat’ and she had so much fun. The happiness on her face suddenly made everything feel alright. We shared an ice cream and ate her favourite veg sizzler. That was the last time we went for a movie together. Her wish during all this time was to meet Rana Daggubati and Vijay Devarakonda. While I was at the Youtube Fan Fest with Vijaya Tupurani, I came across Vijay there and told him about my mum’s wish. He invited mum and me to Ramanaidu Studios and she couldn’t stop smiling! He asked me what I wanted to become and my answer was, ‘an actor’.
I lost my mum in 2018. It took me six months to kick back up and get hustling. I started looking for auditions, where my first audition was for Shekar Kammula sir’s upcoming project. I got good feedback from him but unfortunately, couldn’t make it through the auditions. One day I got a call from Rowdy club to be their model and I signed up with them! In 2020 February, the Rowdy Sundowner 2.0 was being held and the person who was supposed to choreograph couldn’t make it. So, I volunteered to do it. And in one day, I planned the entire event! That night, Vijay had come to the venue and we exchanged a ‘Hello’. I thought he recognised me. The next day at noon, I was teaching him a few steps when I told him, ‘It’s nice to meet you again and work with you this time’. He asked me, ‘Where did we meet?’ and that’s when I reminded him. He said, ‘Wow. You’ve worked really hard and are doing a lot of big things.’ after which he walked out of there.
During the event, he got on stage and he spoke about the day when he met my mum and he spoke about me. In front of thousands of people and media houses, he spoke about me. I had tears in my eyes and in that moment, I really wished my mother was there to see it. Post the event, Vijay’s mother invited me to their house for lunch. We spoke a lot and I felt at home. They treated me like family!
Today, I’m a doctor, a dancer, and on my way to becoming an actor. I picture myself being a part of the industry real soon!
On my mother’s 51st birthday this year, an article was published in the paper with me and Vijay on the same page. If she was here, that would’ve been the most amazing present for her. I miss her and I know that she is with me at every step of my journey and she will remain in my heart, forever!”
