“On some days I fight with him, and on the others he wants to fight with me, but at the end of the day we always say, ‘I love you.’ That love is what keeps us from driving ourselves crazy. Yes, we have our own set of troubles right from taking care of our family to clearing our existing loans but that doesn’t deter us from going forward in life.
I first met him at his village Damarakunta when I was 12 years old. Even though we were family friends, we weren’t that close to each other. We used to meet occasionally in family gatherings and community festivals. I never thought we would get along well but somewhere we knew that we liked each other. Fortunately, after a few years, his parents approached us for our marriage proposal. And that’s it. We have been married for 40 years now.
We both were farmers in the past. We have our own agricultural land of 2 acres in our village but due to scanty rainfall, we had decided to start a business together. Initially, we thought of selling fruits but later we decided to sell grilled corn and jowar roti on the roadside. So during monsoon, we sell grilled corn, and the rest of the year, we sell freshly prepared jowar rotis. We make them only on wood fire which is authentic and healthy. Recently CM KCR sir had inaugurated Kondapochamma Sagar Reservoir which is 3 km away from this area and there are quite a few customers who visit our stall on their way.
It’s been more than 10 years since we started this business and by god’s grace, we are able to make our ends meet. Everything is fifty-fifty with us and our business. There’s no ‘he’ or ‘me.’ It’s always ‘we.'”
