“I come from a humble background where there were limited resources to lead a normal life. Unfortunately, my father was not in a position to provide the support required to me and my siblings due to his health issues and addictions. The unusual situation, the conservative nature of my family, and the social stereotypes were like impossible barriers to pursue my dreams. From early childhood, we were infused with the thought that “spread your legs only as much as the area of the blanket”. But I was determined to learn and grow my personality to become a successful girl who can achieve every dream of her life.
There was no trend of a girl getting higher education in our family. I wanted to break that stereotype and pursue higher studies to become a doctor.
Despite all the limitations I kept on fighting and worked hard. The main reason behind all my effort was the unconditional support of my brothers throughout my educational career. Also, the guidance of my teachers helped me to get admission to MBBS on merit. This was the major turning point, and it felt like I have achieved my goal in life.
After my education and appointment as an Oncologist, I decided to pursue my other dreams in life. I participated in fashion modeling and become a Pageant titleholder of Glamm Onn Miss India 2019. I went close to win the title but left little behind and become the first runner-up of the pageant of Miss India 2019.
Today I am a budding Oncologist and I love to treat and take care of cancer patients. I am also an internationally certified yoga trainer and I want to explore everything possible in life.
But the one thing that has annoyed me throughout my journey was Gender discrimination. I am still facing this issue and it has been incorporated deep within our society. It has become a monstrous enemy that stops us from paying equal respect and appreciation to the deserved ones. I have learned that it is necessary to show gratitude for what you have, otherwise, you will never be blessed with abundance.
Even after becoming an oncologist, I have experienced that there is a lot of scope for development in our health care system. Being a true witness of hardships and tough childhood I can realize the difficulties and despair of people who come from humble backgrounds. I hope to bring a positive change that can revitalize the system so people can get benefit from it. I have another ambition to open an NGO or a Cancer Institute to help low-income people in getting proper treatment of cancer. I want to play my part in helping poor people and spread a smile of satisfaction on their faces. Let’s see what the future holds for me.”
