“Navaratri is my absolute favorite time of the year. As someone who loves dancing, Garba- Dandiya events give me immense joy. Even as a child, I’d go play Garba all night long along with my parents. We’d win prizes every year for our costumes and energy!
The environment at such events is so vibrant. So many people dressed head to toe in bright, shiny, colorful costumes with great jewelery, accessories and make up complete with pleasant traditional folk music! I can hardly stop myself when I’m there.
The society where my friends and I played as young girls often remembers us even today and says that their events have lost their charm since we got married and left. That makes me feel so happy!
My love for dance even managed to pull my husband to one of the Garba nights! Today, I even teach Garba and Dandiya. It’s a pleasure to see people of different ethnicities come foward to learn the dance form and celebrate the festival with us. Every year, I make it a point to dance my heart out in this season. Although I like to dress in a simple manner through out the year , I make it a point to wear the authentic outfit and dress up well these 9 days, because that’s a major part of all the fun!”
