“Of late, there are some restrictions for the pavement vendors like us. We have to follow what the local authorities say. But I am confident that the government will not threaten our livelihoods. I am sure they will help set up a space for us local vendors selling wares by the pavement somewhere.
I have been selling kids’ wear and garments of all patterns, for the past seven years in Hyderabad. I was selling bags and belts before that in Delhi but I moved here as people are more courteous and friendly. I like changing the wares I sell as work becomes less monotonous. There are several luxury stores all across the Old City area but I am not worried though, I try to ensure that my products are of better quality. I source my stock from Maharashtra and I walk across the Charminar area.
The shopkeepers here sometimes get annoyed but they know me and I try to sell my wares in such a way that I do not block their store. It’s all about understanding and maintaining a cordial relationship with others.
Most of my customers are impulse buyers. They are the people who do not come with the aim of shopping for children’s wear, but they see the display, like one, and buy it for their kids.
My day starts at 10:30 a.m. and ends at around 9.30 p.m. I like to watch movies, especially Action movies in theatres in my free time.
What’s next? Well, I am in the process of saving enough money and buying a house of my own one day in Hyderabad. I know it takes time but I am hopeful and staying positive, counting every single day as an opportunity to level up myself.”
