“Attars in Hyderabad represent more than just luxury items – they encapsulate the city’s diverse heritage and vibrant spirit. From the blends of attars favored by the Nizams to the modern fusion perfumes inspired by contemporary trends, each fragrance narrates a tale of tradition, innovation, and cultural exchange.
As the third-generation owner of Gulnar Perfumers, I take great pride in continuing the legacy of our hundred plus year old heritage shop near Mozamjahi Market. My journey in the world of perfumes began in my youth, under the guidance of my grandfather. He instilled in me a deep appreciation for the art of perfumery, and I am honored to carry forward his passion and dedication.
The tradition of perfumery in Hyderabad runs deep, with attars being cherished by generations of Hyderabadis. These fragrances, crafted with ingredients like agarwood, rose, and saffron, evoke memories of cherished traditions.
During Ramadan season, the significance of perfumes becomes even more prominent in Hyderabad. During this sacred month, the Mozamjahi Market becomes a hub of activity as patrons look for their preferred fragrances for their celebrations. From traditional attars to contemporary interpretations, our collection caters to diverse tastes, uniting people in the joy of scent and celebration. We strive to preserve this rich heritage while also offering modern interpretations that resonate with contemporary sensibilities.
In recent years, the city witnessed the evolution of Hyderabad’s perfumery scene. A new wave of perfumers has emerged, drawing inspiration from our city’s vibrant culture and the rich traditions of the Middle East. Together, we are reshaping scent boundaries and creating blends that pay homage to our heritage while also embracing innovation.
We are proud to be custodians of this traditional legacy for more than a century, welcoming all who step through our doors to explore Hyderabad’s perfumery history.”
