“Sankranti is coming up, and we’re hoping for a good season this year. We get our materials from Ahmedabad and Indore, and we make the kites right here in Dhoolpet. From there, they go to shops around the city, ranging from 2 rupees to 200, depending on the design.
Our family has been making kites for over 120 years. My grandfather started it, and the tradition has continued through the generations. Along with kites, we also make Ganesh Murtis.
Things have slowed down in recent years. Some neighbors have moved to other trades as the cost of paper kites is higher than plastic ones. But after a decent season last Sankranti, we’re hopeful for more orders this year and getting back on track.”
