“It was about seven years ago when I had my accident. I was riding my bike, and got flung about 10 feet away. Being someone that always wanted to be in the army and adored dancing, I was petrified to have a handicap of any sort. I had just had a son a month prior to that, which is what pushed me to find a way to recover. I began researching and completely shifted to a plant-based diet, and in 3 months to the surprise of the doctors, I began to recover. I should also add that I was 150 kgs at the time, and I knew that it was about time I started focusing on my health.
In the May of 2015, I returned to Hyderabad and got a job in Shamirpet. I always grew up around nature; in fact, climbing trees was one of the reasons my parents sent me to a hostel when I was younger. Little did they know that I was far more afraid of people that I was of snakes or falling out of a tree! However, when I moved to Hyderabad, I began opening up a lot more, and started getting involved in physical activities since I had fully recovered. I began volunteering for lake restorations, treks, hikes and running.
While I absolutely adored running, I wasn’t doing too well financially, and buying new shoes every 6 months was getting increasingly difficult. I decided to attempt to run barefoot, and realized how much closer I felt to the earth while doing it. Any tiny injuries would recover by morning, and it truly felt like Mother Earth was taking care of me. There were a lot of people that were confused by it, and questioned me several times, but I’ve gotten a few people to convert to barefoot running, and I’m glad they gave it a shot just like I did. I’ve run roughly 1500 km barefoot since I began, and have been involved in several group activities involving running. I still get some strange looks for it once in a while, but it doesn’t bother me very much.
I’ve been involved in several community services and events through my initiative called Hyderabad Kites – be it adventure sports, marathons, or promotions for healthy eating. I genuinely believe that helping others is helping yourself. You can do a lot of things only if you believe you can, and that belief can only come from within!”
