“Writing poems is my way of putting out everything I feel. I always dreamt of being a teen author and a couple of weeks before I turned 20, I self published my first book. It was rewarding – the whole journey. Fortunately, when I decided to take up writing as a profession, my parents encouraged me. My great grandfather too was a poet, who wrote for the Nizams. His poetry had a spiritual angle, which I have tried to imbibe in some of my poems as well. As a school going kid, I would write everything down in a journal. It wasn’t always introspection, but mostly just my thoughts.
But when I started an Instagram page later, it wasn’t well received by a lot of so called well-wishers. People mocked me: ‘Who reads poetry on Instagram?’ ‘So now you’re a blogger.’ However, I chose to ignore all of that because in my mind, my goal was clear. I knew what I wanted was to be an author and I couldn’t care about anything else. It sounds easy of course, but it wasn’t. It was difficult for me to look beyond what everybody around me said. This was also a time when I didn’t have many followers on social media. I kept my head clear and strived to write and publish everything on Instagram. People started to relate and they liked it. I received DMs from them. When I read that my post made someone happy or feel nostalgic, it would make my day! There’s no better reward for a writer than her readers relating to the work. It is a journey that is more than just sharing my stories. Everytime it makes a difference in someone’s life, I’m grateful.”
