“So many times people around us judge our abilities and decide what we’re good at. This happens a lot, especially when you’re a kid. Everybody thinks they know enough about you to say if you’re good as an engineer or a doctor. The same happened to me! People always labelled me for something or the other. I was a good kid, always good at academics with a vision of becoming an engineer. But when you suddenly shift to a big city like Hyderabad from a small village in Khammam district, so many things change. I began to see what life really is. It opened doors to many more opportunities and ideas. I met a person who was impressed with my writing and asked me to help him write for regional daily soaps. I used to write scenes and I decided that engineering wasn’t really my passion. Back at home, my parents didn’t really understand what I was doing. It wasn’t a mainstream job to explain to them. The kind of comments that my father received about me and my future affected him. He started to consume high levels of alcohol, which affected his health. That’s when I started to spend time at home to take care of my dad. Meanwhile, one of my engineering friends and I wanted to start something in the fashion circuit – something local and something very Telugu. We spent about a year doing research and understanding the process of a business. Our idea was to use counter (dialogues) from films on tee shirts – a way of fighting back unnecessary comments that we receive from people. My father who really wanted to see me as a successful man passed away just 2 months before we officially launched Ded-dimaag. I was shattered, but with time I realised that, his support and love will always make me do better. In a few weeks after that, we launched the brand. We hit it off pretty well, but it’s not been a smooth ride. No business is always smooth. We go through our ups and downs but we know how to deal with it. Together, we manage both tech and marketing. It has clicked well among youngsters and celebrities too! In the near future, we plan to have stores across the state. Even today, my mother doesn’t understand what exactly I’m doing and what my career is like. But she sees me happy and satisfied. That’s what matters to her and me.”
