“Doesn’t he make those dumb YouTube videos, does anybody even watch them?” A group of kids no older than 14 walked passed me. It took me off guard. I couldn’t fathom how someone so young was capable of harbouring so much negativity towards someone they didn’t even know. As humans, we tend to focus on the handful of negatives even when you have a whole world of positives out there.
It’s a pretty funny story how I started my YouTube journey. It started off with me sending out my resume to practically every media house in the city. If it had the word ‘media’, they probably received my resume. Also, I didn’t tell anybody at home that I was applying to media houses, after all, that’s probably not the job they expected from me after a BCom Honors. I got into Tamada media in a pretty strange way as well. I just happened to message Jahnavi Dasetty, or as you probably know her, Mahathalli, on Facebook. To this day, neither she nor I know why she opened or responded to that message, but boy am I glad she did!
Everything from then on was a rollercoaster. I’m not going to lie, it wasn’t easy. Late nights, sleeping in the office, getting yelled at at home for missing curfew everyday. Eventually, my parents found out and that only made it worse, until the day I showed them my first video.
I went to bed nervous, but what I woke up to the next morning was 1,00,000 views and about 3000 subscribers! I was practically jumping off the walls with every ‘Congratulations!’ message that popped up on my phone.
Even today, I still read every single comment and take all the feedback I can. There’s always going to be trolls on the internet and in your life that have nothing better to do than drag you down. But the important thing to keep in mind is just to have patience, passion and keep looking at the good things in life!”
