“I am Vedang Lahoti, 21 and am based out of Hyderabad. I’m a final year Engineering student from Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore. I am the founder of Be Limitless, an NGO that helps PwD by providing them employment opportunities.
My motivation comes from my desire to provide meaningful experiences and creating meaningful impact. The reason why I decided to support PwD candidates under the wide social service umbrella is because not a lot of conversations were happening around this cause and I felt the need to create better opportunities for them.
Be Limitless started around October 2020, when a lot of people were losing their jobs during the Covid 19 pandemic. I got to know through newspaper articles that there was literally little or no representation of Persons with Disabilities in the job space. That’s when I decided to bridge the gap between the PwD candidates and employers. Today, we have helped 300+ candidates in finding full time or internship opportunities across the nation. We also help the candidates prepare for the interview round, by having mock interviews with them so that they make most of the opportunity.
The first major challenge that we faced was finding the right set of employers and opportunities for the candidates as it was necessary to make sure that the candidates are comfortable and the environment around them is healthy and inclusive.
Another challenge we worked upon was bursting the reluctance towards the PwD candidates. So, bringing a change in the mindset for some of the employers played a crucial role in our journey. And we are happy to say that we were able to doing so.
I believe that there is a pool of opportunities in the society that is waiting to be grabbed by the candidates but due to lack of awareness and a few age old notions there still remains a gap.
Although, the shift in mindset is happening with time and PwD representation in companies is also improving.
All in all, we at Be Limitless are working towards bridging this gap between the candidates and employers and play a part in bringing a smile their face.”
