“Dance was always my favorite thing to do, even as a child. Growing up, I used to watch Pawan Kalyan sir’s movies and imitate his as well as other noted actors’ moves. That’s where it all began. I didn’t know it at the time, but dance would eventually become the biggest part of my life.
My father worked as a wedding stage decorator, and my mother managed everything at home. After finishing my studies, I joined a private company. It was a decent job, but something was missing. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t feel happy. My mind kept going back to the one thing I loved the most—dance.
When I told my family I wanted to leave my job and focus on dance, they were concerned. In many Indian households, especially middle-class ones, dance is rarely seen as a serious career option. My family wanted me to stick to a stable, conventional path, and I understood their worries. But I also knew I couldn’t live my life wondering ‘what if?’ I had to give it a shot.
I started working as a choreographer when I was just 15, teaching at a small local academy. That’s where I learned how much I enjoyed helping others discover the joy of dance. It wasn’t easy to prove that dance could be a sustainable career. I had to work harder, face doubts, and show that I was serious about this path. By 2017, I had gained enough experience and confidence to start my own academy-Shivansh Dance Academy. Teaching there felt different. It wasn’t just a job-it became my way of connecting with people through something I loved.
In 2022, we opened a second branch. Looking back, it feels great to overcome all the hurdles to be where I am today. Dance has given me everything – a way to express myself, and the chance to inspire others.
I know there are many young people out there who are passionate about unconventional careers, but they hold back because they fear judgment or failure. My advice to them is simple: if you’re dedicated, you’ll find a way. It may take time, and it may not always be easy, but your passion will take you to places you never imagined. That’s what I remind myself and my students every day.”
